Yahoo! Geocities is closing.

Yahoo! Geocities is closing…?! Yes it is.

Bloggers, last Friday July 10, 2009 I got an email from Yahoo! GeoCities. This email contains an important notice regarding with their service. They informed us that Yahoo! GeoCities, their fee web site building service and community, is closing on October 26, 2009. On October 26, 2009 our GeoCities site will no longer appear on the web, and we will no longer be able to access our GeoCities account and files.

What if we have GeoCities accounts? What we need to do? If we would like to move our web site, or save the images and other files, we need to do the following two options:

- Move our web site to Yahoo! Web Hosting for $4.99 a month for full one year.
- Download our files to our own computer, so that we can re-create our site with any web hosting provider whenever we want.

So, download them now, or move to Yahoo! Web hosting as soon as possible so that our files won’t be lost. Whether we choose the first option or the second option, Yahoo! GeoCities provides guidance on how to do.

Dear Bloggers, the question then is: What makes they decide to close Yahoo! GeoCities? Do you have the answer? And, will someday Google to close their Blogspot as well, then suggesting us to move our Blogs to their web hosting? I hope that it will never happen. I hope.
